Building on the success of their Swallow 65mm and 80mm models, Viking have introduced an even more advanced Spotting Scope with superior optical performance. From the extra-low dispersion (ED) glass objective elements to the dielectric coatings on the prisms, these spotting scopes perform to a level not seen in instruments at this price point before.

High Quality ED Glass

Unlike their predecessors the Viking Swallow ED comes equipped with high-quality Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass. ED glass is specially formulated and helps to greatly reduce chromatic aberration so that you experience little to no “colour fringing”. This means that the Swallow ED produces sharper images with better contrast and due to the better light transmission outstanding true-to-life colour. These differences become even more apparent when lighting conditions are dim, like at dawn or dusk.

Dual-focus for precision tuning

Another advantage of the Swallow ED Spotting Scope is the enhanced dual-focus wheel for precision tuning. At much higher magnifications the depth of field becomes very shallow and the different gearing gives you much finer control over the focus accuracy allowing you to quickly and easily see your target in exceptional clarity.

A wonderful scope

Great scope. Absolutely top quality image particularly at the 2 or 3 lower ranges. The tilt function is also very handy for standing height hides where looking down into the eye piece is not practical for non giants.

Great birdwatching scope

I've not had this for very long but have already had occasion to take it out on a few birdwatching trips and the optical performance is outstanding at this price range and would still have been mightily impressive even at a higher price. The focus is exceptionally sharp (with the dual focus wheel working wonderfully) and is maintained most of the field of view with any fall off in sharpness at the edges barely discernible. Colours are very true to life and I wasn’t able to pick up on any aberration. The eye relief is more than adequate for my eyes and glasses and the twist-up eyecup works well for anyone who doesn’t wear specs. The carry case if fine but you’ll need to find something suitably protective to transport (you wouldn’t want it knocking about in the boot of your car knocking out the alignment). It is an absolutely joy to use for bird watching and I can’t recommend it highly enough!
