The Viking Scout 12x30 are a premium set of binoculars from Viking featuring the very latest in image stabilised technology! It will counteract movement to give you a steadier view at a more powerful magnification without the need for a tripod. An ideal companion for wildlife spotting with twist down eyecups for spectatcle wearers, long eye relief, and top quality multi-coated and phase-coated optics you’ll find it easier to identify, follow and keep track of moving or flying subjects.
When it comes to holding binoculars with magnifications over 10x, it can be very difficult to hold them steady enough for a comfortable viewing experience, and it’s not always practical or desirable to use a tripod. However, with the Viking Scout your view can be completely transformed with just the flick of a switch. The advanced image stabilisation technology will even work if you’re on a moving boat or vehicle.
Viking Optical are renowned for their top quality optics and the Scout 12x30 is no exception. Boasting premium multicoated lenses and phase corrected prisms for ultra-clear image quality that you can rely on. The image stabilisation is powered by 2 x AAA batteries, which should provide a usage time of 12 hours. The Viking Scout 12x30 Image Stabilised Binoculars can also be used without the image stabilisation feature and are backed with a 5-year warranty for added peace of mind.

Very impressed. The image stabilisation is remarkably effective and they are lightweight and comfortable to us. Obviously, the field of view is somewhat limited but I feel this is compensated for with how steady the image is on these binoculars. I've had no difficulty in locating and trackig subjects without any risk of it drifting out of vision. The clarity of the image is excellent and compared well against previous binoculars I've owned.

The image quality is great returning natural colours with a high level of contrast with little chromatic aberration. Enhancements to the optical system include multicoated lenses and phase-corrected prisms. The chassis design includes a non-slip, textured rubber wrap around the holding area, and they are comfortable to hold. My only gripe is that the focus knob is in an unusual position resulting in ring finger rather than forefinger, which is not ideal as the as the narrow diameter of the wheel can make precision control more difficult. I do really like the Scout and in assessing what it has to offer for the price, I think it's excellent. You notice a big difference between looking through the Scout when the IS system is switched on compared to conventional viewing. To activate image stabilisation there's a switch on the bridge, which you simply flick to the 'ON' position and a green light will come on just below it. The image is now stable, irrespective of any movement or vibration you care to throw at it. There's no need to keep your finger on the button to keep stabilisation on, and there is a power-saving feature that automatically turns the IS off after five minutes if the binoculars are no longer in use. The battery life is supposed to last for up to 12 hours of continuous use but I've yet to test it anywhere near that length of time. I use a pair of rechargeable batteries and haven't had to recharge them yet. The field of view is limited, which is to be expected at this magnification but it doesn't really matter when an image is so steady as the one provided by these binoculars. I find it easy to lock on to a subject without any risk of it drifting out of vision. Would recommend!
