The Viking Kestrel binoculars are a set of mid-range models that we love so much, we've made them our number one Best Buy for 2020. Offering the same quality as many more expensive binoculars, they offer excellent value for money, as well as high image clarity and durable, weatherproof design.
The Viking Kestrel binoculars provide superb clarity. With Extra Low Dispersion lenses, colour fringe is removed to provide a clearer, brighter image. This gives them a considerable edge over binoculars with standard lenses, and makes them the ideal choice for birdwatchers. What’s more, by letting in more light than standard lenses, the Kestrel binoculars are suitable for use in all light conditions. They even come with twist-down eyecups, meaning you can still use them while wearing your glasses.
As any British birdwatcher will be well aware, the weather in this country is liable to change at the drop of a hat. Luckily, these Viking Kestrel binoculars are well prepared for anything the weather might throw at you. Not only are they fully waterproof, but they are also rubber-armoured, making them easier to grip and less likely to be damaged if dropped. Lastly, they are nitrogen-filled to prevent fogging.
For those who prefer to use their binoculars without a tripod, these 8x42 binoculars are the perfect choice. With an 8.1-degree field of vision, it is ideal for comfortable handheld viewing, comfortable to hold and easier to hold steady than 10x binoculars can be. For users on the go, this makes these compact binoculars a superb choice.
The Viking Kestrel 8x42 binoculars are easily one of the best models around, with rugged design and high image clarity for a superior user experience. Perfect for birdwatchers, their easy portability makes them a great pick for hikers and campers, too.

I've been using these Viking Kestrel Binoculars for a few weeks now and still impressed with both the image quality and the overall design/build. There is a nice solid weight to them without digging into or causing a strain on my neck! The rubber armouring feels strong and durable and the eyecups are comfortable. When it comes to the optics the Viking Kestrel features sharp bright images across all but the very edges of the field of view, which is par for the course with binoculars at this price point. The ED glass undoubtedly adds to the quality with crisp, sharp optics and the colour and contrast is excellent. I've experienced only minimal colour fringing and even in lower light conditions these binoculars produce a fantastic image. Obviously they aren't in the same ballpark as the top offerings from the likes of Leica or Zeiss but they are more than adequate for most and at this price point one of the best!
+Excellent value for money
+Comfortable to use
+Bright and sharp optics
+Ethical (Viking have no links to trophy hunting...)
-Honestly it's really difficult fault the Kestrel

The Viking Kestrel ED has excellent optical quality you would normally expect in a £1,000+ pair of binoculars so I think offer excellent value for money. The image is bright, sharp, and quite free from chromatic aberration. At this price range I've not been able to find better binoculars. Highly recommend!

Overall I'm really happy with these binoculars and they compare well against others I've tested, and would agree with others that they offer really good value! The optics are excellent and I like the look and feel as it really does feel like top-end premium product. My only niggle would be the focusing, which can be a little tricky to get spot-on although perhaps this will improve as I use it more. Would recommend!

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to test a number of binoculars at my local Jessops, which included brands such as Nikon and Olympus. But after doing some further research online I decided to take the plunge on these. I had never heard of Viking before but will be recommending them to everyone as the image quality is better than any binoculars I've used or tested before. The brightness and clarity presents a different order of optical quality than what I've used before. Highly recommended.

You'll be able to read about the technical aspects of the binoculars elsewhere - my review is strictly from a layman's perspective and on the whole I have to say I have been very impressive.
Granted I was moving from a pretty basic pair of 8x25s but still I was really taken aback by the improvement of image clarity as well as the magnification. I've been using for a few outings now and find them very quick and easy to use - the lens covers easy to pop on and off, and the eyecups click into place nicely.
From an, arguably less important, aesthetic perspective, I really like the overall design and build of the binoculars. The quality feels great, and there is a nice case included with them.
All in all, they seem to me a like an excellent pair of binoculars and was money well spent!
