I bought this additional handset to replace a broken one from a previous Panasonic model. My DECT set is an older model but I have successfully replaced broken handsets with newer models in the past.
This new handset registered to the base unit OK but there was no phone book, which I need for caller id. I contacted Panasonic who confirmed the incompatibility . We discussed options and I accepted their advice that it was probably a good idea to replace the whole set. When I installed the new set, I was able to register one of the old handsets to the new base but there was still no way to access the phone book. I had to reinput every phone number by hand.
This lack of backwards compatibility is why I only give it 3 star for features. Also, I chose this model because it advertised 70% louder. Certainly the ringer will blast you out of the house but the audio on the phone itself is not as loud as its predecessor and I sometimes have to put it on speaker and hold it to my ear (I do not have hearing problems that I am aware of). The list of functions on the box says there is an equalizer to choose sound range bass/alto/treble. There is no mention of this in the user manual. Panasonic advised I had to be on a call to access this. I followed their instructions but the equalizer function is definitely not on this model - or at least so cunningly hidden I can't find it.
Overall the phone does what I need it to. It is an attractive design and I might have given it more stars if I hadn't been so disappointed by the niggling details that were missing or wrong. In particular, the soft keys, which are so important for selecting functions, are not illuminated and are very difficult to find in the dark.
