    • Intuitive joystick driven user interface
    • All-digital 12 watt Class-D amplifier
    Editors Rating 98/100
    What We Think
Our pick for the number one DAB radio, the Revo SuperSignal sounds as good as it looks. We don’t make that claim lightly, either- with a beautiful design that perfectly blends retro and modern, the SuperSignal is a real work of art. Revo’s attention to detail goes all the way down to their unique joystick control setup, too. It might seem like it’s going to be a bit fiddly, but in practise it works like a charm. Navigating your way through menus couldn’t be simpler! As for sound quality, it packs a meaty low-end kick that’s surprising for such a small speaker. It’s quite heavy on the bass, but you can easily adjust the EQ to suit your liking. We really can’t recommend the SuperSignal enough- and with multiple design options to choose from, there really is a model for everyone!

    What We Think
Ruark spent decades in the high-end speakers market before making the switch to DAB radios. By taking all that experience and distilling it into a compact case, they’ve created possibly the best-sounding radio on the market today. It may not have the looks of Revo’s models, but we were blown away by the audio quality when we tested out the R1 for ourselves. The bass, mid, and treble frequencies are all crisp and clean, helping the radio to work brilliantly with any music you might throw at it. And while it doesn’t have internet connectivity, you can easily hook up your phone via the Bluetooth mode to really open up your listening options. Ruark’s trademark “RotoDial” control setup is quite literally the cherry on top, making the whole unit extremely simple to use.

    Editors Rating 86/100
    What We Think
As the next step up from the R1 MK 3, the Ruark R2 is a great mid-range model. Although it’s a fairly pricey model when compared to other DAB radios like the Revo SuperConnect, you do get a lot of bang for your buck. In terms of features, it comes with internet connectivity and aptX Bluetooth that allows for HD sound streaming with compatible devices. That high-quality audio is provided by the twin speaker setup, which offers double the power of the R1. • 7. Ruark R4 MK3 DAB Radio with CD & Bluetooth, Walnut
    Product Features
    • DAB, DAB+ and FM Tuner with RDS
    • Bluetooth with aptX for CD quality
    • Digital optical TOSLINK input
    • 3D enhanced stereo sound
    • Compact remote control included
    Editors Rating 86/100
    What We Think
At first glance, it seems like the only difference between the Ruark R4 and the R2 is the addition of a CD drive, and the absence of internet connectivity. In fact, though, there are a number of small but significant tweaks which help to take the R4 up a gear. For a start, there’s the crystal-clear OLED display screen, which provides perfect legibility from any angle. Wherever you are in the room, you’ll be able to easily read what’s playing- perfect if you suddenly discover a new favourite tune! Meanwhile, underneath the casing, the R4 is packed with some seriously sophisticated tech. Ruark have developed their own components over the years and perfectly put them to use in the R4. It may be relatively compact, but it holds its own even against jumbo-sized speakers.

  • 8. Pure Avalon N5 DAB Radio in Pearl Grey
    Product Features
    • Beautiful wool casing
    • Small body, powerful sound
    • DAB+ compatibility
    • Easy-to-use controls
    • Bluetooth connectivity
    Editors Rating 85/100
    What We Think
A wooden case is something of a trademark for Pure, but their Avalon range takes a very different approach to design. They’ve dropped the box-like look of the Evoke, and instead gone for something more akin to the Panasonic RF-D10EB-K. The slimline design is then wrapped in a gorgeous woven wool for a finish that’s subtle yet stylish. Even though it’s more compact than the Evoke range, it still provides a nice rich sound across both DAB radio and a Bluetooth connection. Making smart use of a small footprint, that design approach even extends to the unique pop button- both an on/off switch and volume control in one neat little package.

    • Bluetooth connectivity
    • 40 station preset options
    Editors Rating 84/100
    What We Think
One of the more affordable DAB radios in our range, the Pure Evoke H3 boasts a sleek, modern design. With a real wood casing, the Evoke H3 has surprisingly strong acoustics for a small speaker. The audio sounds a lot more natural as a result, and it’s also a pleasing aesthetic touch. Pure have taken a leaf out of Ruark’s book when it comes to controls. Everything you need is right there on the top of the unit, leaving the front panel clear and uncluttered. Even better, the full-colour screen helps to make this digital radio even easier to use. Finally, the Evoke H3 even comes with a whopping 40 preset options. If you always find yourself flicking around the dial, this could be the option for you!
