Another week, another host of tunes. Let's take a look at what our authors are listening to this week.
Craig's Pick: Thrupence - “Don't You Mind”
A release off this up-and-coming artists Bandcamp album “Lessons (Original Mixtape 4,)” this track is an engaging electronic composition with a danceable beat and some ear-catching ideas which pop out of the track from beginning to end. Always injecting a bit of surprise and a few and interesting tone into the track, it remains fresh from beginning to end and always offers up something new with repeated listening.
Adam's Pick: Sander von Doorn, Martin Garrix, DVBBS - “Gold Skies (ft. Aleesia)”
Here we have a collaboration from some electronic and dance music giants, like Dutch dance music producer Sander von Doorn, fellow Dutch music giant Martin Garrix, and the Canadian electronic music duo DVBBS, with a feature of beautiful vocals courtesy of Aleesia. The result is a tune packed with driving electronic rhythms and an always-danceable beat.
Daniela's Pick: Lorde - “The Love Club”
This nifty little track has some interesting vocal harmonies and a relaxed instrumental presence, giving Lorde's voice plenty of space over a sparse beat to deliver some memorable and engaging lyrics. I find the floating beat and the chorus refreshing each time, and despite the bit of melancholy in the lyrics, a little bit uplifted with every listen.
Max's Pick: Dream Theater - “The Looking Glass”
Bring it home yet again with a host of epic metal compositions, Dream Theater's self-titled 2013 album is jam packed with little gems like “The Looking Glass” - an intense heavy rock jaunt through beautiful vocals, incredible drumming and the always-impressive guitar work of John Petrucci.
