The law concerning the utilisation of a mobile phone while driving a motor vehicle is rather straightforward; or at least that seems to be the case. If we have some understanding, one would imagine that a member of the government Home Office would not only be completely aware of the legislation, but fully compliant as well. Needless to say it was surprising to learn that immigration minister Liam Byrne was convicted for using his mobile phone while driving.
Byrne claimed that the call was of importance, thought it is still no excuse for disobeying the law. Even more ironic is the fact that Byrne is a former police officer. As a result of the infraction, the minister was charged with a misdemeanor and fined a total of £150.00. He also had three penalty points tacked onto his driver’s license.
