We have long been a fan and advocate of Gigaset phones; the simple reason being that the quality of their products is consistently high. Each model they produce has been ‘Made in Germany’ to their exacting standard, and comes with a 2-year warranty regardless of whether it is one of their most basic models or their most high-spec.
It is no wonder that Gigaset continually see their models top the independent Which? Best Buy Guide for cordless phones (in point of fact, a 2011 test resulted in every single top 30 phone having been manufactured by Gigaset), and receive such glowing reviews from consumers, not just on our site but across the board.
We delve behind the scenes, to find out exactly what ‘Made in Germany’ stands for:
Passion and expertise
From design, to engineering, right through to acoustics and materials, Gigaset employs people who are passionate when it comes to achieving the best results. Their philosophy as stated themselves is:
‘If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing right’
Some of you may scoff, but this maxim is evident in the quality of each finished article produced. In all our years of testing, reviewing, and offering advice on cordless phones we are yet to come across a Gigaset model that has disappointed. Before any model reaches the production line, a dedicated team of designers consider the needs of potential users, and whilst sound quality and performance are integral to the phone, other qualities, such as how the handset looks and feels, is also important. Each model is approached both as a technical device and an object of design.
Because telecommunication has been Gigaset’s sole focus it has enabled them to innovate in ways other manufacturers have not been able to. For enhancing the sound quality of landline calls Gigaset created HSP (High Sound Performance) protocols , and for twice the sound quality of normal VOIP calls they developed HDSP. Ecological awareness is also at the heart of the company’s strategy and they have invested in more efficient production, cut down on packaging to reduce C02 consumption, and patented their ECO DECT technology for radiation free models with lower power consumption.
Quality tested for durability
All of Gigaset’s models are stringently tested to ensure that their phones are built to last. Below is a list of the vigorous tests to which each model has been subjected to:
- Each keypad button is pressed 100,000 times
- Each handset charging cycle is activated 25,000 times
- Each handset is placed into a trouser pocket containing dust and crumbs 10,000 times
- Each phone is subjected to a series of temperature shocks from -25 to + 55 degrees Celsius
- Each phone is dropped on its edge and side 16 times from a series of heights
- Each phone is placed in a dust oven intermittently over a period of 8 days
This helps to filter out any potential defects or shortcomings and provides Gigaset and consumers the confidence that the badge of ‘Made in Germany’ stands for outstanding quality.
