Jabra Evolve 75 Wireless Headset: Review

Jabra Evolve 75 Wireless Headset: Review

The Jabra Evolve 75 is the latest high-spec wireless headset from Jabra. Designed to improve focus at work with the addition of superior Active Noise Cancellation and integrated busy light. It is billed by Jabra as the best wireless headset for concentration in the open office and as we work in an open office and have been using the predecessor to this model - the Evolve 65 - since it was released we were keen to put the Evolve 75 through it’s paces and find out if the upgrades and improvements make up for the higher price tag.

Design

There is a nice weight to the headset without it being too bulky. It feels more substantial than the Evolve 65 that we're used to and benefits from a sturdier noise cancelling uni-directional ECM microphone. The materials used to manufacture are top quality and there are no visible screws or hinges giving it a much more consumer look and feel to it.

The on-ear cups have a soft faux leather with a net in the middle, which provides comfortable wear for prolonged periods. And we were glad to see that Jabra improved the magnet on flexible boom arm mic, which now attaches firmly to the headband when not in use (the one on the Evolve 65 was forever falling out of place). The headband is covered with a silicone-like material on top, which helps ensure the headset sits perfectly on your head, and as you would expect is fully adjustable to accommodate different head sizes. Jabra have also introduced a charging stand for the Evolve 75, which is available at an additional cost.

Set-up

The box includes the Jabra Evolve 75 Wireless Headset, Protective Travel Case, USB cable, Jabra Link 370 USB Adapter, Quick Start Guide & Warranty info:

Jabra claims the Evolve 75 is a plug-and-play headset, and we found it to just that. You can connect to a PC or laptop via Bluetooth, USB Cable, or the included Jabra Link 370 USB adapter; and with Dual Bluetooth® connectivity you can connect to two devices at the same time for calls and music. We tested with an iPhone without issue, pairing was easy and the headset switched seamlessly between calls and music. We didn’t quite achieve the quoted range of up to 100ft/30m away from your connected device but we were able to walk a fair distance about the office without any reduction in quality or calls dropping out.

Sound Quality

Perhaps the most important aspect of any headset is sound quality. Whether you’re on your umpteenth call of the day working in a busy call centre or enjoying some down time listening to your favourite music, you want to be able to hear clearly.

Offering the best sound for calls and music the Jabra Evolve 75 is our No.1 choice for professional wireless headset

Thankfully the Jabra Evolve 75 comes with 40mm speakers that are backed up by quality drivers to deliver remarkably crisp sound and call clarity. Whilst it doesn't quite manage to compete with dedicated headphones for music there is no doubt that the Evolve 75 delivers a far better audio experience than other headsets, and the ability to switch between calls and music at work is a definite bonus.

Noise-cancelling

The Active Noise Cancellation on the Evolve 75 is the best we’ve come across. When you turn it on (the ANC button is positioned on the left ear cup) it completely blocks out all background noise so that you can’t even hear the person sitting beside or opposite you. You can easily toggle between on and off so that you can quickly check what’s going on around you.

We also compared the quality of the noise-cancelling microphone and compared it to other wireless headsets, and found the Evolve 75 came out on top.

Verdict

The Jabra Evolve 75 is an excellent wireless headset for PC that really impressed for sound quality and noise cancelling. It’s comfortable, well made, and very easy to set-up and use.

  • What we liked:  The top-class Active Noise-Cancelling makes the Jabra Evolve 75 one of the best professional wireless headsets we’ve come across in a while. It’s easy to use, comfortable to wear, and the sound quality is excellent.
  • What we disliked: The price is quite high and might be difficult to justify the expense.
